LAN Folder Drop Privacy Policy

LAN Folder Drop serves one folder directly from your device to browsers on your current local network and offers a user-initiated Apple system-share fallback. Paran does not receive the folder, its files, or transfer activity.

The folder you choose

You explicitly select one folder through Apple’s system folder picker. The app reads regular files in that folder and its ordinary subfolders to build the download list. Hidden files, package descendants, and symbolic links are skipped. LAN Folder Drop does not upload, rename, edit, or delete your source files.

Local-network sharing

When you start sharing, the app opens a temporary HTTP download page on your current local network and creates a random session link and QR code. A browser with that link on the same reachable network can download individual files or the folder as a ZIP. The receiving device does not need LAN Folder Drop.

Apple system-share fallback

Some routers and managed Wi‑Fi networks isolate devices even when they use the same network name. If the browser cannot reach the local link, you may tap AirDrop or Share ZIP. The app exports the already-prepared temporary ZIP to Apple’s system share sheet. No router change is required for this fallback.

You decide whether to invoke the share sheet and which destination to use. AirDrop, Files, cloud-storage apps, messaging apps, and other installed share extensions may appear depending on your device. A selected destination may transmit or store the ZIP outside LAN Folder Drop according to that provider’s settings and privacy terms. Paran does not select, operate, or receive data from those destinations.

Trusted networks and encryption

LAN Folder Drop does not add TLS or other transport encryption to the local HTTP session. Use it only on a local network you trust. Anyone who can reach your device on that network and obtains the active session link may download the shared files until the session ends. The app is not designed for cellular transfer, public-Internet sharing, or untrusted public Wi‑Fi.

Temporary ZIP and session data

The app creates a temporary ZIP inside its sandbox when a sharing session starts. It removes that ZIP when you stop sharing, clear the selection, or begin a replacement session. If you export the ZIP through Apple’s share sheet, the selected destination may retain its own copy. The app keeps the active connection count, transferred byte count, and up to twelve completed transfer names in memory for the current app session; Paran does not receive or store that information.

Stopping access

Tapping Stop, clearing the selected folder, closing the app, or moving it to the background ends the local server session. The old session link then stops working. LAN Folder Drop does not provide background sharing.

Preferences

The app stores only your in-app language preference using Apple’s UserDefaults. It does not persist your selected folder as a Paran account or cloud record.

Data collection

LAN Folder Drop contains no Paran backend, account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, tracking SDK, or embedded third-party file-transfer SDK. Paran does not collect personal information, folder names, file names, file contents, session links, IP addresses, usage events, identifiers, or diagnostics through the app. User-selected system share destinations operate separately from Paran. Apple may provide Paran with aggregated App Store or diagnostic information according to your Apple settings and Apple’s policies.

Your control

You choose the folder, when sharing starts, when it stops, whether to open the Apple share sheet, and which destination receives the ZIP. Browsers have download-only access: they cannot upload files to the source folder, rename source files, or delete source files through LAN Folder Drop.
