LAN Folder Drop Support
Share one folder with nearby browsers over your current Wi‑Fi, with an Apple system-share fallback when the network blocks device-to-device access.
Quick start
- Connect the sending and receiving devices to the same trusted local network.
- Open LAN Folder Drop and choose one folder.
- Review the file count, then tap Start Read-only Sharing.
- Scan the QR code or open the session link in a nearby browser.
- Download an individual file or choose the ZIP download for the whole shared folder.
- Tap Stop & Revoke when finished.
What the receiving browser can do
The browser can view the generated file list, download individual regular files, and download one ZIP containing the shared files. It cannot upload, rename, or delete source files. The receiving device does not need an account or an installed app.
What is excluded
Hidden files, package descendants, and symbolic links are skipped. A session supports up to 10,000 regular files. LAN Folder Drop shares only the folder you select and does not expose other folders through the session.
When the link stops working
The session ends when you tap Stop, clear the selected folder, close the app, or move it to the background. Keep the sender app open in the foreground until downloads finish.
If another device cannot connect
- Confirm both devices are on the same Wi‑Fi or reachable local network.
- Allow Local Network access for LAN Folder Drop in Apple Settings if asked.
- Keep LAN Folder Drop open in the foreground and start a new session if the old link expired.
- Some guest networks, router client-isolation settings, VPNs, firewalls, and managed networks block device-to-device traffic even when both devices show the same Wi‑Fi name. This does not necessarily mean the app failed.
- If the link still will not open, tap AirDrop or Share ZIP above the QR code. LAN Folder Drop hands the already-prepared ZIP to Apple’s system share sheet, so no router change is required for this fallback.
- Choose AirDrop for a nearby Apple device, or another destination you trust. The destinations shown and how they handle the ZIP are controlled by the operating system, installed extensions, and your choice.
- Cellular transfer and public-Internet sharing are not supported.
If a folder cannot be shared
- Confirm the folder contains at least one readable regular file.
- Choose a folder with no more than 10,000 shareable files.
- Files that disappear, become unreadable, or change while a session is active may fail to download. Stop, reselect the folder, and start again.
- For sensitive files, stop the session immediately after the intended receiver finishes.
Privacy
The browser route uses no Paran server or Paran cloud, and Paran does not collect the selected folder, file contents, session link, or transfer history. If you invoke Apple’s system share sheet, the destination you select receives the prepared ZIP under that destination’s own terms. Read the privacy policy for the exact processing and security boundary.
