Moon Phase Planner

Moon Phase Planner combines a monthly Moon calendar with observations for a chosen place and time, plus private notes and checklists.

Quick Help

• Choose a location from the pin button. Use optional current location, choose a city, search for a place, select a point on the map, or enter coordinates.
• Check the location's time zone. For a place that Apple cannot resolve, choose its time zone manually before applying it.
• Tap Observation time to choose a date and time in that location's time zone. Now returns to the current instant and updates once per minute.
• Use the Month View arrows to browse months. Calendar phases refer to noon in your device's time zone; the observation card refers to the selected place and instant.
• Tap a day, then add a note and checklist items. Changes save locally. Tap outside a text field or scroll to dismiss the keyboard.
• Today returns to the current date and instant. Share exports a text summary of the selected day, including its note and checklist.
• Open Settings to choose an app language or follow the system language. The app includes 20 language and regional options.

Location and Network Help

Location permission is optional. If it is denied or unavailable, manual places still work. To change permission, open the app's Location settings in iOS Settings. Approximate location can be used, but a more precise location improves the calculation of the local sky. Search and maps need Apple's services; existing selected places and Moon calculations remain available without them.

Understanding the Moon View

The Moon's phase is nearly the same worldwide at a given instant. Its direction, altitude, and angle above a level horizon depend on where you are. This app calculates that view; it is not an augmented-reality view or a phone-orientation compass.

Dates from 1900 through 2100 are supported. The view uses a sea-level horizon and a standard atmosphere. Clouds, mountains, buildings, eclipses, and surface detail are not represented. Direction becomes less meaningful directly overhead, and the bright-side angle is unstable very close to a new or full Moon. The app is for planning, not navigation or safety-critical decisions.
